How to create a web page in 60 minutes or less.
Please only follow the detailed instructions in red.

1.     How to start.

Log on to a networked computer in room 206. Using your mouse, double left click on the Secondary folder, find and double left click on the Microsoft FrontPage 2002 icon. (If a new _page_ 1.htm immediately appears, single left click on File, and then single left click on Close.) While in FrontPage 2002 single left click on Empty Web from the right hand side of the page.
(If a menu does not appear along the right hand side of the screen single left click the mouse on File, New, Page or Web, Empty Web.)
Single left click the mouse while the cursor is in the horizontal window above the Browse button, push the delete button on the keyboard  and type in the window M:\ and the name of your web folder (i.e.. M:\ Career Studies Web Page) Single left click on the OK button in the bottom right of the screen.
Front Page 2002 automatically places this folder in your M Drive ( Your personal and protected file storage space on the NT Server). All web pages you create must be saved to this folder. Front Page 2002 has also automatically created an images folder inside the web pages folder where you will save all pictures before you insert them into your web pages. Find and single left click your mouse while your cursor is on the following items.
File, New, Page or Web, Blank Page.

Congratulations you have just created your first web page!
( albeit blank)
You also have created web folders on your M Drive to save all information into.( albeit empty)
Beginner Options.    Single left click on Format, and then Theme to select a variety of themes to apply to your web pages automatically. If you want a web page with set margins, headers, footers or other special format features (prior to selecting Blank Page)  from the right hand side of  the screen select Page Templates. Remember to single left click with your mouse on Edit, Undo, to instantly remove anything you have done and do not like.
F.Y.I.     The task bars at the top of the screen are what you will use to manipulate the information on the web page. The icons on the left under  Views ( you should be in Page ) provides information on your progress. The buttons on the bottom left allow you to work on a web page (Normal mode); allow you to see the coded information which form your web page (HTML, Java script, etc)( HTML mode );or allow you to see your web page in the format it will appear on the internet (Preview mode) Always return to normal mode to work.

2.     Putting animated pictures on your web page.

Single left click your mouse on the Start button in bottom left corner of your screen. Single left click on  the Teachers folder, find and double left click on the Internet Explorer Icon, single left click the mouse with the cursor in the Address horizontal window, press the delete button on the keyboard, type in or copy and paste
www.animfactory.com  in the Address destination window at the top of the page and press enter.

Search through the web site until you find a picture you like. Single left click your mouse while your cursor is on the image and then single right click your mouse while your cursor is on the image, single left click on Copy. Single left click on the or  X in the top right corner of the windows (s) to return to your original web page.

Single left click on File, single left click on Save As, double left click on the images folder, change the Save as type: horizontal window at the bottom of the screen for Web Pages to All Files (single left click on the ▼ and then single left click on All Files),
Single right click on the mouse while the cursor is on the screen (in the images folder) and single left click on Paste. ( The animated picture file you  have selected should immediately appear on the screen/in your images folder).
Single left click on the X in the top right corner of the window to return to your original web page.

Single left click on Insert, single left click on Picture, single left click on From File, double left click on the images folder, single left click on the picture file you require ( unless it is already selected by default), single left click on

the Insert button on the bottom right hand side of the screen. The picture you selected from the internet site should immediately appear where you wanted it .

Congratulations you have created a web page that has moving pictures!
Single left click on the Preview button at the bottom left of the screen to see your animated picture as it will appear when you post it to the internet. Single left click on the Normal button to continue working.
Single right click on the picture while your cursor is on it to manipulate it in a number of ways including changing the source folder for the picture.

F.Y.I. FrontPage 2002 usually automatically has your web page folder open and ready for you to open or save in. If this is not the case you will need to locate your M Drive and web page/images folder. Scroll down in the drop down menu on either the Look in: or Save in: to select your M Drive, open your Web Page folder, open images folder.
 

How to insert picture files from sources other than the internet:
While in Front Page 2002 single left click the mouse while the cursor is on File, single left click the mouse while the cursor is on  Open, use the Look in: horizontal window drop down menuto select
Tcommon,. Double left click on a1 Teacher Web Page Instructions, and then double left click on Images folder ( Make sure that on the Files of type: horizontal window at the bottom of the page you have used the  on the drop down menu to select All Files instead of Web Pages) Single left click your mouse on bulldog, then single right click while the cursor is on the bulldog, single left click on copy. Go to the Look in horizontal window drop down menu again, use the ▼ to select your M Drive, double left click on your Web Page folder , double left click on the images folder, single right click on  your mouse while the cursor is on the screen (in the images folder) and select paste. The icon for the bulldog picture should appear on the screen (in the images folder). Single left click on the X in the top right corner of the page to return to your original page.

Place your cursor on the blank web page where your want the image to appear, single left click your mouse on Insert from the top of the page, single left click on Picture, single left click the mouse on From File. Single right click on the bulldog file, single left click on the  Insert button at the bottom right of the screen. The bulldog picture should immediately appear on the web page where you wanted it.  At the bottom left corner of your page single left click on Preview to see the web Page as it will appear on the Internet.  Single left click on Normal to continue working on the page.

Place your cursor on the picture and single right click your mouse to alter the source or behavior of this picture.
 

3.    How to add text to your web page.

For any normal information you want to add, simply use the key board as usual. To change the size, color and font of the information you have added, highlight the text you wish to alter using the left clicking and holding your mouse as you roll the  cursor over the area you wish to alter. Single right click while the cursor is on the selected text, single left click the mouse on Font, and change Color, size and font, select OK to apply these changes  to the web page information.
Congratulations you have created a web page with animated pictures and information that can be posted on the internet!

 

 

4.    How to save this web page to your M Drive.  

Single left click on File, single left click on Save As. At the bottom of the Save As screen, single left click in the File name: horizontal window and name this page (i.e.. Home Page ). Single right click on the Save button in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. You will return to the page you were just working on.
Congratulations you have created and saved; to your M Drive, a web page with animated pictures and information that can be posted (ftp) to the internet!

How to create a table. Tables are sometimes a better format to put text and pictures in because the margins retain their alignment when the page is displayed on the Internet. Single left click on Table, Single left click on Insert, Single left click on Table, using the mini drop down number menus select the number of columns and rows you want on your table, single left click OK and the table will immediately be added to your web page .  Place your cursor in the table you have created, single left click and then single right click,  single left click on table properties, scroll down on the Background Color menu bar, select the background color you want for the table. Single left click on OK. The background color of the table will be automatically changed and you will return to the web page you were working on.

Convert Word Perfect documents into web pages.
Word Perfect 10 gives you the option to open documents previously created in earlier versions of Word Perfect and save them as web pages or in portable document format ( which any word processing program can open).
While still in Front Page 2002 and working on your web page single left click on the Start button in the left hand
corner of your screen. Single left click on Teachers folder, find and double left click on WordPerfect 10.
If you have a document you want to bring into Word Perfect 10, single left click on File, single left click on Open, select the location you want the document to come from using the Look in: drop down menu
(i.e.. T common, A: Drive)
You can create your own text document (i.e. Assignment, Holiday greeting page)
At the bottom of the page type:  Home Page |
Single left click; without release, and roll your mouse over the Home Page | text.  Single left click on Insert, single left click on Hyperlink, single left click on the folder icon in the right corner of the <current document> window and locate the drive, folder and document you want to hyperlink this page to. ( i.e.. Drive M, double left click on Web Pages folder, single left click on Home Page, single left click on Select.) Congratulations you have established a hyperlink from this Word Perfect 10 document page to the Home Page web page.
When you have finished your work ( you can insert pictures, tables etc) single left click on File, single left click on Publish to HTML. Single left click on File again, single left click on Save As, use the Save in: horizontal window drop down menu to locate your M drive, Web Pages folder and then double click on the Save button in the bottom right hand of the screen.

 

5.    How to create a Hyperlink to a web site or document.

At the bottom of the first web page you created type  Page2 | DSBN Web site.   Highlight the DSBN Web site text by holding a left click on the mouse while rolling over the DSBN Web site text then release. Single left click on Insert, single left click on Hyperlink, type in the internet address for the web site you want to hyperlink to ( i.e..
www2.dsbn.edu.on.ca) in the Address: horizontal window at the bottom of the page. Single left click on the OK button in the bottom right hand of the Insert Hyperlink page. Single left click on the Preview button on the bottom of the screen. Single click on the DSBN Web site text to see if the hyperlink works. Single click on the Normal button on the bottom left hand corner of the screen to return to the original web page. Save this web page.
Congratulations you have created a web page with animated pictures, text information and internet hyperlinks!
Single left click on File, single left click on Close. Find and single left click your mouse while your cursor is on the following items.File, New, Page or Web, Blank Page. Add any information you want to this page but at the bottom type in the name of the first web page you created ( i.e.. Home Page | ) Highlight the Home Page text by holding a left click on the mouse while rolling over the Home Page text then release. Single left click on Insert, single left click on Hyperlink, single left click on the page you want this page to hyperlink to (i.e.. Home Page). Single left click on the OK button at the bottom right on the Insert Hyperlink window. Single left click on the Preview button on the bottom of the screen. Single click on the Home Page | text to see if the hyperlink works. Single click on the Normal button on the bottom left hand corner of the screen to return to the original web page. Save this web page with an appropriate name ( Page 1?).
Single left click on File, single left click on Close.
Find and single left click your mouse while your cursor is on the following items.
File,Open, use the Look in: drop down menu ▼to locate and open your web pages folder. Single left click on Home Page, single left click on the Open button at the bottom right of the Open File window. Highlight the Page 2 text at the bottom of the page. Single left click on Insert, single left click on Hyperlink, single left click on the page you want this page to hyperlink to ( i.e.. Page 1), single right click on the OK button in the bottom right of the Insert Hyperlink window. Single left click on the Preview button on the bottom of the screen. Single click on the Page 1 text to see if the hyperlink works. You should be able to hyperlink back to the Home Page from page 1 using the hyperlink you previously set. This should allow you to continually hyperlink from page to page. Single click on the Normal button on the bottom left hand corner of the screen to return to the original web page. Save this web page.


Now What?
Exit Microsoft FrontPage 2002. Go into the teachers folder and double click on the Internet Explorer icon, work offline and locate the Home Page file from your M Drive. Open the Home Page in Internet Explorer to watch how you web pages will perform on the internet.
Have your web pages FTP'd to the Sir Winston Churchill web site to be available to parents, students - the world.
Remember to continue developing skills in web page creation and use.
