Enlightened Despot Editorial

Task:

You will write a one page editorial/pamphlet on one of the given enlightened despots. Your editorial/pamphlet may promote the enlightened despot or critique them. It will be informative about their policies and creatively put together.

Process:

• You will be assigned one of the given enlightened despots:
• Catharine the Great
• Fredrick the Great
• Maria Theresa
• Joseph II

• You must research the following focus questions about your despot:
• To what extent is the ruler “enlightened”
• How did their policies reflect an enlightened approach?
• How successful were their reforms?

• You will research the following focus questions in the form of an informative      

editorial or pamphlet. It will be one page in length. Based on your research, your
editorial or pamphlet may promote the enlightened despots or critique them.

• The editorial/pamphlet must be creative and appropriate for the time period (don’t include pictures of cars, modern dress etc.)

• Information must also be cited appropriately in the form of a works cited list. A minimum of two sources must be used.

Evaluation

            The enlightened despot rubric/pamphlet will be evaluated according to the
            editorial rubric.
