Course Description: This course investigates the history of humanity from earliest times to the sixteenth century. Students will analyse diverse societies from around the world, with particular regard to the political, cultural, and economic structures and historical forces that form the foundation of the modern world. They will examine the influence of selected individuals and groups, as well as of particular innovations, and will develop skills of historical inquiry, organization, analysis, and communication.
Unite One: Palaeolithic and Neolithic Societies - the journey to civilization
Unit Two: First Civilizations of the Near East - Mesopotamia & Egypt
Unit Three: Far East Civilizations - China
Unit Four: Mediterranean Civilizations - Greece, Rome & Byzantium
Unit Five:: Medieval Civilizations - Europe and the Near East, the age of faith
Unit Six: Independent Study Unit (Final Demonstration)

Materials: Students are responsible for the textbooks that are assigned to them. Lost or damaged textbooks are to be replaced by the student at current replacement cost (60$).
