Objective

This project will consist of both group and individual assignments. Work through the production process to create either a short film or TV show of your choice. If you decide to complete the TV pilot or short film on your own, you are done. If working in groups, you must complete additional support material:

Groups of 2:

1. Work with a partner to complete the TV pilot or short film.
2. Individually create a trailer for your short film or commercial for the TV show.

Groups of 3:

1. Work with the group to complete the TV pilot or short film.
2. Individually create a trailer for your short film or commercial for the TV show.
3. Individually create a production company ident.

Groups of 4:

1. Work with the group to complete the TV pilot or short film.
2. Work with the group to create a "Behind the Scenes Look" that can be added to the TV pilot or short film
3. Individually create a trailer for your short film or commercial for the TV show.
4. Individually create a production company ident.

    

** Your group will present the film to the class on the scheduled EXAM DAY. Use your treatment as a guide for your presentation and be prepared to discuss it with the class. **

 

Procedure

1. Choose a group or work individually
2. Choose a genre and topic
3. Write a Treatment.
4. Have Treatment approved
5. Start Director's Log
6. Complete Storyboards
7. Shoot Footage
8. Edit
9. Submit all paperwork and copies of your completed project

Criteria

Short Film or TV show

• Treatment, Director's Log, Storyboard
• 7 - 10 minutes in Length
• Various camera composition and shot types demonstrated
• Graphics - titles and credits
• Soundtrack with dialogue, music and sound effects
• Appropriate storyline
• At least 2 of the following techniques. You should integrate these techniques very well into the creative makeup of the final video:

  Chromakey

  Cloning

  Live to Tape

  Time Lapse

  Slow Motion

 

Trailer or Commercial

• Storyboard
• 1.5 - 2 minutes in Length
• Graphics - titles and credits
• Soundtrack with dialogue and music

 

Production Company Ident

• Concept sketches
• 10 - 15 seconds in Length
• Original name and graphic
• Animated graphics or text

 

"Behind the Scenes Look"

• 3 - 5 minutes in Length
• Summary of the film
• The making of the film
• Interview with the cast / director
• Appropriate supporting footage
