To the Parents, Students and Community Members:
It is with great pleasure that I join the team of educators and support staff at Sir Winston Churchill. 2018 marks my tenth year as an administrator but first year here as Principal. From day one, I have been greeted by students, parents and staff members with kindness, respect and an impressive degree of school spirit!
This is a school that values active participation in one's learning and in being involved in extra-curricular activities. Teachers are dedicated to supporting students and students are dedicated to supporting one another. If you look to page 10 in the Student Agenda, you'll be astounded at the number of opportunities for students to discover their passion and talents. In terms of gaining points to earn a School Letter upon graduation, students choose from 15 different academic opportunities, 27 different leadership opportunities, 18 different sports and 40 different clubs. I truly feel privileged to be here.
Before I let you go, I'll share a few things that I value. I value the power of every voice - student, parent and teacher. I believe that if we feel a sense of pride and ownership in all that we do and all that we stand for - amazing things can be accomplished. I look forward to learning more about what needs to be celebrated and what needs to worked on - and I invite you to reach out to me at anytime.
...Here is a mid-year update! I would like to share a copy of our School Improvement Plan. After a few short months, I've come to understand that Sir Winston values what I call "High Expectations with High Support". Both students and teachers hold themselves to high standards with regards to achievement and goal setting but this is balanced by empathy and understanding. Click here
