Guitar Heroes move over! This course is where you learn to play the real deal. This course provides students with opportunities to develop their musical literacy through creation, appreciation, analysis and performance of music, including traditional, commercial and art music. The intent is for beginning guitarists to become familiar reading standard notation, TAB as well as develop the ability to chord, strum and learn finger style methods. Students will apply the creative process with performing appropriate technical exercises and repertoire and will apply the critical analysis process when reflecting on, responding to, and analyzing live and recorded performances.
Course note: This course is for students with prior experience either through the completion of the instrumental, strings or vocal music courses at the grade 9 or 10 level to ensure that we can build upon previously acquired musical and rhythmic literacy skills. Guitars are provided by the school and students may also opt to bring in their own.

This guitar player’s course emphasizes performance of guitar at an intermediate level that strikes a balance between challenge and skill. Student learning will include participation in creative activities and listening perceptively. Students will also be required to demonstrate a thorough understanding of the language of music, including the elements, terminology and history of music.
Course note: This course is for students with prior string instrument experience either through the completion of the guitar or strings courses at the grade 11 level to ensure that we can build upon previously acquired skills.
